Lesson 2.2 — Employees, addresses, sector and website details

This lesson helps the learner complete the basic organisation profile questions in the Cyber Essentials assessment, including employee count, registered address, operational addresses, main business activity and website address.

CE questionnaire questions: A1.3 A1.5 A1.5.1 A1.7 A1.8

What You'll Be Able to Do

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • record the correct employee count
  • distinguish between registered and operational addresses
  • choose the most appropriate business sector
  • provide an accurate website or public profile address.

Why This Matters

The most common problems are:

  • counting only payroll employees and ignoring contractors, volunteers or others with access to organisational data;
  • confusing employee count with device count;
  • forgetting people in additional legal entities that are included in scope;
  • entering a trading address instead of the registered address;

  • [ ] Is employee count the same as device count?
  • [ ] What address should be entered for A1.5?
  • [ ] What should be entered in A1.5.1?
  • [ ] Should home addresses of remote workers be listed as operational addresses in A1.5.1?

Your Action

Do this now — it takes 10–20 minutes.

Count your employees and find your SIC sector code. You need both for the questionnaire. Add them to Section A1.
