What the market charges
One UK agency lists a platform-based AI receptionist from £2,000 plus £99 a month, and bespoke voice-agent development from £8,000 plus £499 a month. Call minutes, phone numbers and AI usage are charged on top.
What a good one does
- Answers in your business's name and takes the caller's details.
- Answers only the questions you approve.
- Passes a summary to your team or CRM straight away.
- Hands over to a person when it cannot help, rather than guessing.
What to watch for
Be clear about what it may promise callers, how recordings and personal data are handled, and what callers hear when it is unsure. Test it with awkward calls before customers do.

Common questions
- Will callers know it's AI?
- They should. It is better practice to say so up front and offer a person when needed.
- What does it cost to run?
- Call minutes, the phone number and AI usage, which depend on your call volume. I estimate these before you commit.
