Our desktop application · Development preview
Fold: a desktop app for preparing a clean music handoff.
A local-first application that turns a set of files and required delivery sections into an organised handoff folder, with an optional ZIP export.
The task
Handing music files to another person can involve repeated checking, naming and packaging. Missing material or an unclear folder structure makes the receiving person do extra work. Fold makes the required sections visible before creating a handoff pack.
What we built
The application lets a person choose files and folders, organise them into required and optional sections, and create a clean output folder. An optional ZIP provides a single package to pass on. Working with local paths and an explicit export step makes a desktop interface appropriate for this task.
How we built it
React and TypeScript provide the interface and application logic inside Electron. The desktop process handles controlled filesystem work and archive creation. Vite supports development, electron-builder provides packaging configuration and Vitest checks application behaviour. The required output structure is part of the workflow rather than an instruction left to the user to remember.
Current status and release boundary
Fold is a development/preview build, with packaging scripts for desktop targets. It is not presented here as a fully signed production release. Signing, notarisation where required, platform installation checks and manual release QA remain distinct from having working application code. The project demonstrates file-based desktop tools, structured exports and packaging workflows.
Tools behind the build
Electron, React, TypeScript, Vite, electron-vite, electron-builder, archiver and Vitest.
